Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley is suggesting that public concerns raised about the nine Ghanaian nurses, who tested positive for COVID-19 on arrival, was much ado about nothing.
At a press conference yesterday at Ilaro Court, attended by members of the COVID-19 Task Force, and joined online by Minister of Health Jeffrey Bostic, Mottley said she was disappointed by some of the public commentary.
She also accused some people of engaging in stereotypical judgements about people from Africa.
“The fake news that went about this weekend is one of the unfortunate moments for me in this whole exercise. Even before the Ghanaians landed, there was a lot of fake news and a lot of talk. I wondered to myself, if these nurses were coming from Eastern Europe, would we have the same commentary?” (CLM)
