There are too many illegal guns in society and they are being wielded with “devastating effect on individual victims”.
So said Crown Counsel Joyann Catwell as she made submissions on sentence in the matter of Renaldo Omar Griffith in the No. 2 Supreme Court earlier this week.
Griffith, 24, of Fitts Gap, Westbury Road, St Michael, had pleaded guilty, earlier in the Session of the Continuous Sittings, to having a .380-semi-automatic gun and eight rounds of ammunition on August 24, 2015.
His attorney Shadia Simpson, in mitigation, told the court there was no evidence to suggest Griffith used the gun. She submitted he did not have a history of violence, cooperated with police and readily accepted responsibility for his actions. (HLE)
