Little Switzerland has been ordered to pay three former employees a total of just over $62 000 after they were unfairly dismissed from the company.
The Employment Rights Tribunal, led by chairman Christopher Blackman, delivered the decision yesterday in the tribunal’s Warrens Office Complex office against World Gift Imports (Barbados) Ltd, trading as Little Switzerland.
Michelle Cox-Jordan, an assistant manager of 21 years; Cirleen Bascombe, a sales consultant of 11 years, and Maria Yearwood, a sales consultant of 21 years, were made redundant on March 24, 2017.
However, Yearwood and Bascombe, who were members of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), and Cox-Jordan, who was not a member of the bargaining unit as a consequence of her position, were offered six weeks’ wages in lieu of consultation. The offer was accepted by Bascombe and Yearwood. (RA)
