Acting DPP issues warning

If there is one prosecutor who will be vigorously opposing requests by defence counsel for adjournments in long-running matters, it is Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Alliston Seale.

He said he was tired of acceding to such requests only to have them come back to haunt the prosecution at a later stage.

“I am making it abundantly clear to all counsel who I have conduct of matters with, that when we set matters in this new dispensation and this new post-COVID era, I will be ready for trial.

“And unless there is another matter going on, I am not accepting excuses for not going to trial or for not moving forward with matters,” declared Seale. (HLE)
