A combination of learning, camaraderie, mentorship and few tears along the way.
This was how Intern Of The Year Dr Ninon Forter Chee-A-Tow summed up her residency at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Forter Chee-A-Tow received the top honour yesterday and was among a group of five other interns to whom the hospital paid homage for their outstanding performance during their placement.
In accepting the award, she spoke of the importance of exuding positive energy to patients and ensuring that people felt as though they were valued and respected at a time when they were most vulnerable.
“Above all else, I believe that it is the value and the respect that we have learnt to place on human life. It is knowledge that persons from all walks of life, at their most vulnerable times, deserve nothing but your best. It is the knowledge that your compassion and kindness and even a small smile can make a big difference,” she said, while wishing her colleagues much success in the next chapter of their lives.
Also receiving awards for their outstanding performance were Dr Keimee Lopez, Dr Devon Thorpe, Dr Rebecca Whitehead and Dr Regina Young. (CLM)
