We await our justice

I cite the words of Imran Khan, who as leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, whose name translates as “movement for justice”, says of Pakistan: “We are going down because our system of governance has collapsed because of corruption.

“Corruption is what causes a country to be a Third World country.”

Imran Khan is hoping to win the Pakistan elections in July this year when as prime minister he would focus on restoring honesty and decency to public institutions.

Corruption seems to be the biggest deterrent to a country’s holistic development. It is becoming clearly evident that corruption is a world problem. The coming to light of the malpractices of the deposed Democratic Labour Party Government causes great concern.

It is reassuring to note that the new Barbados Labour Party Government intends to table integrity legislation at the first sitting of Parliament. Singapore is the great country it is today because Lee Kwan Yew enforced his anti-corruption laws. Justice was done. People who gave bribes and people who accepted bribes were on conviction sent to jail.

This country waits with bated breath for integrity legislation and for justice to be done if any corruption laws are broken.
