Workers of a 156-room four-star West Coast hotel are facing redundancy as a direct fall-out from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Staff of the all-inclusive, adults-only The Club Barbados Resort and Spa, formerly known as Almond Beach Club at Vauxhall, St James were yesterday advised of their imminent redundancy in a letter signed by human resources director Donna Harper-Nicholls.

“It has been a difficult decision for the company, however, the COVID-19 pandemic and the measures being implemented to combat it are continuing to have a significant and unprecedented negative impact on the global tourism industry – and sadly The Club Barbados is no exception,” Nicholls wrote.

She also advised: “Severance payments will be made in two instalments on October 21 and November 21 2020. All outstanding staff loans will be deducted in full from the first instalment. Outstanding matters arising from disciplinary matters, for example, the removal and destruction of guest property, will also be deducted.” (GC)
