The family and friends of the late Dr Tanya Greenidge were urged during her funeral service yesterday not to be consumed by hate.

Greenidge is the daughter of Neval Greenidge, Barbados’ Consul General to Miami. The service took place in the Gymnasium Of The Garfield Sobers Sports Complex in Wildey, St Michael, and was attended by Governor General Dame Sandra Mason, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and several diplomats and Government ministers, as well as Harrison College students and alumni.

In his sermon, Apostle Eliseus Joseph spoke about how violence and hate were contagious.

“Violence is evil . . . and is one of the most contagious realities we face, and when we lash out in kind, we perpetuate evil. I say choose to focus on the fact you had a gift from God [in Greenidge] rather than on her loss. Trade expectation for appreciation and the world will become a better place. Trade pain, fear and anger for gratitude . . . and stop your suffering by expressing thanksgiving.” (CA)
