Reifer seen as good choice

The Democratic Labour Party’s (DLP) choice of former West Indies cricket captain Floyd Reifer to contest the upcoming by-election in St George North, has been lauded as a good move by political scientist Peter Wickham and political economist Dr Don Marshall.

However, Wickham said the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) candidate Senator Toni Moore still had the advantage in what has become a five-way race.

The Opposition People’s Party for Democracy and Development (PdP), Solutions Barbados and the United Progressive Party (UPP), have also signalled their intent to contest the poll.

Wickham argued that with the BLP capturing 80 per cent of the St George North vote in the 2018 general elections, Reifer had a large deficit to overhaul.   (CLM)
