The Ministry of Education, at the request of students, will consider extending teaching time.
After hours of consultation with students from public and private primary and secondary schools yesterday, Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw said the children were clamouring for more time to learn under the COVID-19 adjusted school system.
“It is important for us to discuss what is happening and if teachers want to accommodate, then I think we should give the flexibility to do so, but it is not business as usual,” Bradshaw said.
“Truly, the children are saying we want an extension of times so that we can do more face-to-face.
“It is nothing that is going to be thrust on the teaching profession, but I think it is something worthy of a conversation, given the children are very concerned that they are just not getting enough out of the school day.”
During the sessions, at the Gymnasium of the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex, the children had their say on the pros and cons of the blended approach to learning under COVID-19 conditions that call for social distancing and proper hygiene practices.
