Careem Romario Iza Brathwaite, 25, of Glebe Land, St George appeared before Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes, at the District ‘D’ Magistrates’ Court, Cane Garden, St Thomas, on Monday and pleaded guilty to the offences of breach of curfew, assault and possession of cannabis. He was also charged with burglary but was not required to plead to that offence, which is indictable.
Brathwaite was fined $4 000 in six months with the alternative of six months in prison for the breach of curfew offence. In addition, he was granted $2 000 bail with one surety to reappear at the District ‘A’ Criminal Court #1 on Friday, February 26 for sentencing in relation to the matters of assault and possession of cannabis.
He was also granted $5 000 bail with one surety and is scheduled to reappear at the District ‘B’ Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, February 4, relative to the burglary charge. As part of his bail conditions, he is required to report to the Glebe Police Station, The Glebe, St George every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday before 11 a.m. and has been placed on curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily.
The charges are: On January 6, 2021 he committed a breach of the special curfew directives in effect.
On January 6, 2021, he entered the dwelling house of Chade Marshall as a trespasser with intent to commit an arrestable offence.
On January 6, 2021, he unlawfully assaulted Francine Marshall.
On January 9, 2021 he unlawfully had in his possession a controlled drug – cannabis.
In relating the facts, police said in a statement that on Wednesday, January 6, around 9:15 a.m. the complainants were at Chade Marshall’s home when a white vehicle stopped in front of the residence.
“The accused, who was the front seat passenger, got out of the vehicle and entered the residence, where he committed the mentioned offences before subsequently leaving in the said vehicle. On Saturday, January 9th, 2021 the accused was arrested by the police and on searching the accused, a quantity of vegetable matter suspected to be cannabis was found in his possession. He was informed of the offence and admitted knowledge and possession of the drugs. (PR)
