Fogging project resumes next week

From next week, the Vector Control Unit will restart its fogging programme as officials continue to keep an eye on the dengue fever outbreak.

Chief environmental health officer Francina Bascombe has urged householders to pay more attention to settlements and containers around their homes, which are potential mosquito breeding sites.

Inspections

“All across Barbados, we want persons to do inspections around their premises and ensure they don’t have any containers that contribute to that problem. And if any containers are breeding or are likely to breed mosquitoes, you need to dispose of them.

“We know that people are complaining about the vacant lots and they are an issue, but not in the way that people treat them in terms of mosquito control. But unless there are water settlements where there is the possibility that mosquitoes can breed, they are not an issue in terms of breeding,” Bascombe said.

She acknowledged that sometimes the limited availability of trucks could hinder the ability to service the entire country but added their new fogging schedule was expected to be up by next week. (TG)
