An 84-year-old Barbadian woman, who had a pre-existing chronic illness, is the latest casualty of coronavirus (COVID-19.) She died on Thursday. Her death brings to 12 the number of people who have succumbed to the viral illness.
There were also 21 new positive COVID-19 cases recorded on Thursday. They were identified from among the 422 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.
Twenty-five people also recovered and were discharged from isolation. This brings the number of active cases in Barbados to 363.
The 21 new positives comprise 11 women and ten men. Seven of them are people who would have been sent to the Harrison Point Isolation Facility previously, for assessment. The other 14 people are Barbadians.
Of the total 361 people diagnosed as positive at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds, 355 have recovered. The remaining six people are included in the active cases count.
To date, Barbados has recorded 1 498 confirmed cases – 609 females, 889 males – and 1 123 people have recovered.
The public health laboratory has so far completed 101 675 tests. (BGIS)
