Four years for woman with drugs heading to Barbados

GEORGETOWN, Guyana – A  23 year old woman who swallowed 73 cocaine-filled pellets and inserted cocaine-filled condoms in her vagina, was sentenced to four years in prison and slapped with a GUY$798 750 fine when she appeared in court on Thursday.

During her court appearance, Tamarah Melville also pleaded guilty to trafficking 775 grams of cocaine.

The police arrested Melville at the Eugene F. Correa International Airport on February 20, after she was observed acting suspiciously.

The cocaine in her private parts was found during a search, after which she admitted to swallowing the pellets.

Melville who was searched just before she boarded a Caribbean Airlines flight #BW 215 destined for Barbados, excreted the pellets when she was taken to the hospital. (CMC)
