Church divide over reopening, Bishop Maxwell urges caution

It is time for the faithful to get back in the pews, say some church leaders, but Anglican Bishop of Barbados Michael Maxwell is advising caution until there is a decrease in the number of active COVID-19 cases in the country.

Barbados has reopened on a limited basis following the almost month-long pause in February, but churches are still only permitted a maximum of ten people for worship or to facilitate online services, as COVID-19 cases continue to mount during a second wave and community spread.

Pastor Eric Peters, of Power in the Blood Assembly in Tudor Bridge, St Michael, said it was time for reopening.

“One of the things we are fully aware of is that Government will only give so much information, so you trust there is a good reason for who can open during the phased reopening, but my opinion is that churches should have been considered as well,” he told the DAILY NATION. (CA)
