Champion track and field coach Frank Eric Blackman has been hailed as a man of integrity whose deeds will live on forever.

Delivering the sermon at the funeral service of the revered coach, Reverend Derick Richards said Blackman made a massive contribution to sports in Barbados that will stand the test of time.

Before a congregation at James Street Methodist Church yesterday morning that included four Olympians – Harcourt Wason (1976), Rawle Clarke (1976), Freida Nicholls (1972 and 1976) and Alvin Haynes (1992) – Richards said Blackman exemplified what he professed.

Wason, who described Blackman as “a man among men” was a pallbearer, while Nicholls read the second lesson.

Richards said that whatever people do, they must do to the best of their ability, adding that Blackman was a firm believer in giving 100 per cent for the right reason.

“There was one word that was consistent in all the persons that I spoke with concerning Frank, and that one word was integrity. Each of them said to me, Frank was a man of integrity. He wanted the best for people, he wanted to see people achieve. (MK)
