Alex Sobers capped a fantastic weekend of swimming with a third straight Olympic “B” qualifying time and national record.

Competing at the ISCA International Senior Cup in Florida on Saturday, the 22-year-old was third in the men’s 100 metres freestyle in 49.78 seconds.

In the process he broke Shawn Clarke’s almost 12-year national mark of 50.40 seconds that stood since 2009.

Sobers has now qualified for the 100, 200 and 400 metres freestyle races at the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games set for this summer in Japan.

However, since he has “B” times, whether he will compete is a decision that will be made by the National Olympic Committee.

He made his first Olympic appearance at Rio 2016 in Brazil. (Nation Online)
