More talks on River Bay mess

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs will be engaging the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) over work done in River Bay, St Lucy.

Early last week, residents complained about the pungent odour emanating from stagnant water and rotting sargassum seaweed in a water course, called the south river, which connects with the sea.

One resident pinpointed work done by the BWA as the problem, where a water pipe was buried under the course which he said was preventing rain water from flowing into the sea.

After investigating, the BWA said they were not to blame as the concrete used to bury the pipe was under the water level and was not impeding water flow. They said the obstruction was due to sargassum seaweed and low rainfall resulting in the course not being flushed.
