Consistency key as Windies eye victory

Consistency is a quality that has often eluded West Indies over the past two decades of “moderate success and devastating failure”, but it is an attribute they are hoping to find under the leadership of new full-time captain Kraigg Brathwaite and the guidance of head coach Phil Simmons.

The journey to find that elusive level of stability in Test cricket continues in the second and final Test of their current series against Sri Lanka, starting today at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

Both sides will be looking to exceed the performances that precipitated a hard-fought draw in the first Test, which ended last Thursday at the same venue, but it will be vital for West Indies.

At least another draw or, better yet, a win in this Test to seal a series victory and follow up the 2-0 sweep on the tour of Bangladesh could signal the beginning of a more resilient side, something which their enduring fans have desired for
a long time. (AR)
