Barbados’ first and the longest serving Central Bank governor Sir Courtney Blackman was hailed yesterday as a man who had an “unbridled passion” for family, a resolute search for and acquisition of knowledge, and a firm commitment to Barbados’ continuing development.

These were among the tributes paid during a service in Florida, where the former Ambassador to the United States and Organisation of American States died on March 16 at the age of 88.

His sons Christopher, Keith and Martin Blackman remembered him as an outstanding son of the soil who had an unquenchable thirst for education and the advancement of his family, especially his children as well as the people of Barbados, regardless of their stations in life.

They painted the picture of the highly regarded Barbadian intellectual during a service, presided over by Reverend James Stratton, that was streamed around the world, with mourners joining in from Barbados and its Caribbean neighbours, the US, Canada, Australia and other countries. (TB)
