The volcanic ash and small craft warning which was in effect for Barbados over the last few days was downgraded to an advisory, says a release from The Met Office.
La Soufriere Volcano remains active and varying intensities of volcanic ash continue to affect Barbados.
A small craft advisory shall be issued when reduced visibility (less than 10 km but greater than 5 km) is affecting or forecast to affect the marine area within the next 36 hours.
The southern parts of the island were impacted the most by the recent ash plume. However much of the ash is presently weakening and satellite imagery does not currently indicate any further explosive eruptions.
Once this general trend continues, this advisory will be terminated sometime this afternoon, but given the highly active nature of the La Soufriere Volcano, it is likely that further eruptions will occur.
Depending on the intensity of the ash plume and wind direction, Barbados may continue to experience reduced visibility and further ash deposits. (PR/SAT)
