Call for meeting after fight

The Alliance Owners of Public Transport is calling for an emergency meeting with Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith following a viral video of a policeman and a conductor in a fight in the terminal.

Public relations officer of the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) group Mark Haynes said that an urgent meeting was needed following the incident Thursday morning in the River Bus Terminal drew the attention of a number of drivers and conductors who tried to part the officer and worker. Some people were screaming police brutality.

 

Haynes, said the matter was not being treated lightly and was asking PSV operators to wear their uniforms, walk with identification, show respect to the authorities and comply with all the regulations.

Police public relations officer Acting Inspector Rodney Inniss said police were probing the matter.

A subsequent police release said they responded to a call for assistance from police who were on duty at the Constitution River Terminal about 8:45 a.m. Thursday as a result of an altercation between two males (workers of Public Service Vehicles) and two police officers dressed in uniform.

After the investigations Travis Tremaine Brathwaite, 30, of Sealy Hall, St Philip was charged with obstructing the Constable 2077 Dennis Murray in the execution of his duty, assaulting  Murray in the execution of his duty and resisting Murray in the execution of his duties and criminal damage of a police uniform shirt, the property of the Crown.

James Anthony Andrews, 34, years of Apple Hall Terrace, St Philip a conductor was charged with assaulting Constable 2214 Donette Cadogan in the execution of her duty, soliciting passengers, improperly attired and threatening Constable Cadogan.

Both accused are expected to appear in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court today. (SB)
