The public now has an anonymous avenue to report bad behavior by schoolchildren.
The Safe Zone Reporting app is now available in the Google Play and Apple Store. It is a collaboration between Supreme Counselling for Personal Development, the Ministry of Education and the Maria Holder Trust.
The app was launched this morning at Hilton Barbados.
Chief executive officer of Supreme Counselling, Shawn Clarke, said reports made on the app would be seen by select trained teachers and ministry safety officers who would investigate and pass it on to principals, if necessary.
The app is linked to eight schools during its pilot phase – Frederick Smith Secondary School, The Lester Vaughn School, Grantley Adams Memorial School, Princess Margaret Secondary School, St George Secondary School, Coleridge and Parry School, Graydon Sealy Secondary School and Daryll Jordan Secondary School – but will be expanded to all primary and secondary schools after one academic year.
Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw said Barbadians had lost sight of being their brother’s keeper but it was more important than ever to look out for the nation’s future leaders. She said the app would help change the narrative and develop a culture of reporting issues rather than just placing them on social media. (CA)
