Barbados Defence Force (BDF) and BRC both registered comfortable wins in Tuesday’s semifinals at Kensington Oval and will face off against each other in this year’s final of the Barbados Cricket Association’s (BCA) Twenty20 Shield Competition scheduled for May 21.

While BDF staunchly defended a middling score of 129 for eight by dismissing JCB Boscobel for 113 in 19.1 overs, BRC, with the luxury of a much stiffer target coasted home, winning by 27 runs over IDL Walkers Sand Quarry Isolation Cavaliers.

Punishing knocks by Anthony Rollins and Durwin Selman pushed BRC to 154 for five to which the “Cavaliers” could only reply with 127 in 19.1 overs.

Opener Selman and Rollins posted 80 for the second wicket in notching 36 and 46 respectively with supporting knocks coming from Michael Hinds (20) and Lorenzo Garraway (18 not out).

Isolation Cavaliers’ skipper Shaquille Parris returned figures of three for 30 to be his team’s best bowler.

Parris also got among the runs but his supporting knock of 44 along with a polished 60 (36 balls, 4 fours, 4 sixes) from number three Jeremy Bowen was not enough to challenge the BRC total.

The right-handed pair were brought together in the second over of the reply after new-ball bowlers Andre Evelyn and Kurwin Selman removed the first three wickets in ten balls to leave Isolation reeling at five for three.

Evelyn, who was on a hat-trick in his first over finished with three for 10 from three overs.

In the first match of the double-header, a five-wicket haul by leg-spinner Sherwin Joseph (5-17) helped restrict the BDF after a 59-run second wicket stand between Dayne Doughty (52) and skipper Renaldo Brathwaite (20).

Ninth wicket pair Jamar Gittens (21 not out) and Renaldo Griffith blasted 20 off the final over to bolster the eventual total which proved too much for Boscobel’s batsmen. (WH)
