Barbados has been able to procure 37 new water tankers which should be on island within the next few weeks.
Minister in the Ministry of Water Resources, Charles Griffith, revealed this yesterday evening during a Barbados Labour Party Report To The Nation event which was streamed live to commemorate its current three-year tenure in Government.
The news came less than a month since Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley told the country her administration would go the extra mile to get second-hand or new trucks to bring potable water to residents in St John, St Joseph and St Thomas, who have been complaining for more than three years about daily access to the precious commodity.
Griffith said five new tankers were already at the Bridgetown Port, and would be commissioned immediately to assist the most affected residents.
The Member of Parliament for St John said the administration had already started a number of projects which were close to completion, and would add to the eventual improvement of water provision in Barbados.
“We had reservoirs that were paper thin. We are rectifying the problem,” he added.
