The laws of Barbados are clear – you cannot grow, process and sell marijuana, even if you think it is necessary to feed your family, unless you have a licence.
So said Justice Carlisle Greaves as he ordered Mario Simeon Kenroy McAllister to serve a remaining five years in jail for cultivating ganja two years ago.
“Until or unless it is changed, where you transgress the laws of this country and find yourself convicted for the possession, cultivation or trafficking in cannabis, particularly in this quantity, you must expect to spend a substantial period of incarceration in HMP Prison,” Justice Greaves said.
McAllister, of No. 1, Mayfield, St George, had pleaded guilty to possession of 53.2 kilogrammes of cannabis; having a traffickable quantity of the drug and cultivating it on August 20, 2019. (HLE)
