What started out as a fight for the presidency of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) may well turn out to be a battle for the leadership position.

That is because a long-standing member of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) has thrown its president, Akanni McDowall, into the arena for general secretary of the union, which represents the largest number of public servants.

Natalie Murray submitted a resolution accompanied by a petition with 135 signatures to the union’s Dalkeith, St Michael headquarters yesterday afternoon to make McDowall, the leader of the union.

She was accompanied by her attorney Alicia Carter.

Murray told the Weekend Nation that a special general meeting would have to be convened within 14 days to allow members to vote on the resolution. (MB)
