All schools in Barbados will operate online today.

That is the word from the Ministry of Education via a media release signed by chief  education officer Joy Adamson.

The decision was taken in light of last night’s thunderstorms which resulted in fallen trees and blocked roads. Water and electricity are also off in some areas, the release said.

“The combination of the above factors will impact students and staff getting to schools and will also impact the grounds and buildings at some schools. The Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training is therefore advising that all schools operate online today so that all necessary cleanup and restoration can be carried out. Any Assessments planned for today will be rescheduled,” the statement added.

A tropical wave is affecting the island and early this morning, the Barbados Met Office issued flash-flood, severe thunderstorm and high wind warnings for the island. (PR/SAT)
