Work will be done to improve lighting at seven primary schools during the summer vacation.

Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw said in the House of Assembly on Tuesday many schools were affected by poor lighting and Government had committed $14.4 million to start the process of electrical upgrades.

Schools earmarked for the programme initially are St Christopher Primary, Welches Primary, Wesley Hall Primary, Westbury Primary, St George Primary, St John Primary and Belmont Primary. The Wilkie Cumberbatch Primary School is also scheduled for some electrical work.

The upgrades will apply to the schools’ security systems and cameras, lighting at the plant and to charging devices within the classroom.

Bradshaw said her Ministry and the Ministry of Energy were also planning to install photovoltaics on 21 secondary schools during the summer months. (GC)
