Quarter-miler Jonathan Jones lived up to his early season form and claimed the fifth gold medal for Barbados at the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Under-23 Athletics Championships today in Costa Rica.

Jones, 22, defied a wet track caused by torrential rain and a stiff challenge in the home straight from Christopher Taylor of Jamaica to win the Under-23 men’s 400 metres in a time of 46.20 secs.

Taylor was second in 46.58 and another Jamaican, Javeir Brown, took bronze in 47.54.

Team Barbados now has five gold medals, one silver and one bronze at the meet. (AR)
