Barbadian sprinter Tristan Evelyn produced a valiant run but finished sixth in heat 3 of the women’s 100 metres dash at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games on Thursday.

Competing in lane 5, Evelyn clocked 11.42 seconds in a close finish after a good start out of the blocks.

Germany’s Alexandra Burghardt qualified first in a time of 11.08 seconds while USA’s Javianne Oliver was second in 11.15 seconds.

“The start felt good, but my transition mechanically just wasn’t there,” Evelyn said after the race in the mixed zone.

“I felt like it couldn’t accelerate … it didn’t feel smooth at all. I felt like I came back on at the end, but it was too late, too much ground to cover.” (NM)
