The Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados (CTUSAB) is concerned about the move by a City business to offer its staff money to take the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to a two-page memo dated July 23, 2021, Lionel C. Hill Supermarket stated that all staff “should” be vaccinated by August 31 and are offering them $300 to get the jab.
On Friday, CTUSAB president Edwin O’Neal told the Sunday Sun he was worried about the nature of the document.
“We left the Social Partnership meeting (on Tuesday) with the clear understanding that the Prime Minister would seek a legal opinion from the Attorney General (on the route of mandatory COVID-19 vaccines and PCR testing),” he said.
“Until the legal opinion is given, we should avoid situations that lead to hardening of attitudes. . .” (SB)
