Barbadian quarter-miler and national record-holder Jonathan Jones has called for support for his fellow athletes after reaching the 400 metres semi-finals on his Olympic Games’ debut in Tokyo, Japan, on Saturday night.

Jones was the fastest Caribbean qualifier in the men’s 400-metre, circling the track in 45.04 seconds as he finished second in heat three.

Competing in Lane 9, Jones soared to the front in the early stages and led the pack with 150 metres to go.

A victory was not to be as the United States’ Michael Cherry got to the line first in a time of 44.82 seconds, topping the list of qualifiers. (EZS/NM)
