Government has plans to bring Barbados back in line to complete its mandate of planting a million trees.
Minister of Environment Adrian Forde said big plans were on stream for National Arbor Day on September 22.
“After COVID-19 came, there were a number of shutdowns, including our plant nurseries, followed by severe drought, but I want to guarantee something special will be coming on National Arbor Day/National Tree Planting Day.
“In September we will be looking to plant more than 150 000 trees and that will put us back in parallel to have a million trees planted in a few years,” he said.
Originally the Million Trees initiative was scheduled to be completed by the end of last year, with more than a million trees expected to have been planted. It was relaunched in September last year and again yesterday, both times at Nature Fun Ranch, Bruce Vale, St Andrew.
