Leon Dacosta Hoyte was found not guilty of gun possession by a jury in the No. 4 Supreme Court.
Hoyte, of Porey Spring, St Thomas, had been on trial for having a 9mm Lorcin semi-automatic pistol and seven rounds of ammunition in his possession on December 12, 2017.
He was represented by attorney Pearson Leacock, while Deputy Director of Public Prosecution Alliston Seale, Senior Crown Counsel Oliver Thomas and Crown Counsel Kevin Forde appeared for the Crown.
The jury reached unanimous not guilty verdicts when the matter concluded on Monday.
Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell then told Hoyte he was free to go.
During the trial, the court had heard that lawmen executed a search warrant at Hoyte’s home.
Hoyte showed lawmen into his bedroom and it was as they were searching a closet that they found a dark coloured firearm.
During his defence, Hoyte denied the gun was his and suggested it had been planted in the closet which was mere feet away from the bedroom window. (HLE)
