The local club cricket season will bowl off on September 11.

Days after the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) announced the cancellation of all 2021 tournaments, the decision has now been reversed.

The revelation was made in a press release issued moments ago from the BCA, signed by president Conde Riley.

“The Barbados Cricket Association is pleased to announce that, following consultations with

Government and the receipt of clarification from the COVID Monitoring Unit of the protocols for sport, the 2021 BCA Domestic Cricket Season is scheduled to commence on Saturday, September 11, 2021,” The statement said.

Three competitions will be played –  a 40-over cup competition for elite and first division teams, 40-over shield for intermediate teams and 30-over plate format for second division squads.

COVID-19 monitors will be placed at all cricket matches across the island to ensure protocols and directives are strictly observed. It is expected that clubs and schools will enforce the wearing of masks, sanitising of hands, measurement of temperatures, recording of contact information and observance of physical distancing.

The move comes following successful talks among BCA officials, Minister of Sports Dwight Sutherland and the Ministry of Health. Last Friday, the BCA abandoned the season out of an abundance of caution due to the COVID-19 pandemic on the island. (AGB)
