Russell Elcock was the unquestioned king of the road when the 2018 Barbados Cycling Union’s 2018 season continued over the weekend with the Larry Williams Memorial Classic.

Elcock captured Saturday’s 20K individual time trial on Spring Garden Highway in 28 minutes, 49.157 seconds and then dicated the pace in the 75K road race that started in front of H&B Hardware Warrens on Sunday.

The promising Elcock won the event which took riders through St George, St Philip and St John in two hours, 28 minutes, 46 seconds.

Jacob Kelly was second in two hours, 29 minutes, four seconds with Gregory Vanderpool third in 2:29:25.

Wayne Edwards was the emphatic winner of the masters class for riders 50 years and over ahead of Reggie Jones and the durable Gregory Downie.

The women’s winner was Amy Cox, who clocked three hours, 1.31 minutes.

The race was held in honour of the late Larry Williams, a former national road race champion. The prizes were handed out by Larry’s uncle, prominent businessman Ralph “Bizzy” Williams. (MK)
