Barbados should experience light winds from Sunday through Tuesday when Hurricane Larry passes to the north, bringing localised activity across some parts of the island.
In a weather statement issued on Friday, the Barbados Meteorological Services said Larry was located near 14.8N 40.7W at 11 a.m., about 2 050km (1270 miles) east of the country.
The system is currently moving towards the west-northwest at 16 mph with maximum associated winds of 90mph and a minimum central pressure of 981Mb.
Larry is expected to strengthen during the next 24 to 36 hours and become a major hurricane (Category 3 or higher).
It is forecast to continue on a west-northwestward track today and over the weekend, with a turn towards the northwest early next week. On its current track, the system is expected to pass well north of Barbados and the eastern
Caribbean.
No watches or warnings are in effect at this time and the system does not pose any threat to the island.
