Prime Minister Mia Mottley has told the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) to put up or stand down with the calls for stricter protocols to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
In a press release, the Prime Minister said it was nauseating to hear people politicking about COVID-19 when front-line workers were overwhelmed and the behavioural patterns of many Barbadians “left much to be desired”.
“I heard the leadership of the Democratic Labour Party today calling for tougher measures. The clear implication is that they would like us to go back into lockdown. My question is, where is the scientific basis for this call at this time?” she queried.
The DLP’s vice president and spokesperson for health, water and sanitation, Andre Worrell, said with 101 COVID-19 positive cases in one day, and 546 people in isolation, the public ought to know whether the outbreak was due to community spread of the highly contagious Delta variant.
The DLP, he said, recognised that managing the crisis meant ensuring that the healthcare sector is not overwhelmed. (RA/PR)
