TORONTO – Barbadian jockey Christopher Husbands strengthened his bid for his first Fort Erie jockeys’ title when he broke his two-week win drought on Monday.

With six days of racing remaining in the season, which ends October 26, Husbands pushed his tally of wins to 47 – moving him 20 clear of reigning champion and fellow Barbadian Juan Crawford.

The three most successful jockeys this season at the racetrack – Husbands, Crawford, and Jamaican Kirk Johnson, on 23 wins – combined for four on the eight-race card.

Husbands got into the winners’ circle when he scored a seven-and-a-half-length win aboard the 4-1 bet Jmr Awesom Silence in the CAN$11 598 fourth race in a Maiden Claiming event over six furlongs on the dirt. (LY/CMC)
