Consultant manager of the home isolation and home quarantine programme Dr Adanna Grandison is putting Barbadians on notice that based on the COVID-19 cases, plans are in place if the system becomes overwhelmed.

Speaking during a nationally televised COVID-19 update yesterday, she explained that with more than 2 500 people already in home isolation and quarantine, and with the recent University of the West Indies model projections indicating Barbados could see 700 to 800 daily infections, management of the programme met as recently as Tuesday to plan for the contingency.

“This is something that we have been in discussion and talks about, and this conversation happened up to this morning because we are aware that there will come a point in time, especially given the projections that we are seeing, that the system will be overwhelmed.

“So we have had that discussion in terms of what happens when we get to ‘X’ amount of cases in the community, where the physical human resource is being overwhelmed in terms of being able to meet the expectations of the persons,” said Grandison. (CLM)
