PORT OF SPAIN – A magistrate has sentenced a 25-year-old patient to six months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to touching the breast of a doctor treating him at the San Fernando General Hospital last week.

Senior magistrate Cherril-Anne Antoine imposed the jail term on Michael Bhagaloo, after he was charged with indecent assault.

Defence attorney Annalee Girwar said her client was remorseful, had limited education and was receiving disability grants as he suffers from “congenital defects”. She said her client’s family suffers genetic defects.

The court heard that on April 4, the doctor reported to police that she was attending to the accused when he informed her that she was getting fat and that her breasts were getting big. He later fondled her left breast.

The court heard he had apologised after he had been identified by the doctor to the police.

According to a victim impact statement the doctor said she was became afraid during the incident and is in fear that it will happen again with another person.

Bhagaloo, who had no previous convictions, was jailed for six months. (CMC)
