There will be no Richard Stoute Teen Talent contest this year.

The competition’s promoter and veteran entertainer Richard Stoute made that announcement on Tuesday.

He said that although he was looking forward to staging the show, which would have celebrated its 45th anniversary, the surge in novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases led to the decision to scrap this year’s event.

“It would have been a crowning moment to have the 45th anniversary for a show that produced 99 per cent of entertainers in Barbados. But I don’t want to endanger the kids’ lives by having them in an uncertain forum. God forbid one of them came to one of our workshops and they got the virus.

“I was looking forward to having a big celebration this year, but it was not to be. But should it be the will of God, I hope to do it in a big way next year,” Stoute said.

Back in July, it was announced that the Teen Talent weekly workshops would be postponed until further notice.

For more than 40 years, many of Barbados’ entertainers such as Edwin Yearwood and Alison Hinds participated in or were crowned winners of the artiste developmental competition. (TG)
