The prosecution is of the opinion that Derrick St Elmo Ward’s rape and buggery of a woman deserves a starting point of 24 years in prison.

However, his attorney contended that after more ten years waiting in jail for the matter to be heard, Ward should be given time served by the court.

He will have to wait until November 1 to find out his sentence from Justice Randall Worrell.

Ward, 53, of Skeetes Road, Garden Land, St Michael, was back in the No. 2 Supreme Court, after he had confessed to having unlawful sexual intercourse with a woman, sometime between July 21 and 22, 2010; that he buggered her between the same dates; that he assaulted her on July 21, 2010, and that he unlawfully detained her at Skeetes Road, Garden Land, against her will with intent to have unlawful sexual intercourse with her on July 22, 2010.
