A strong performance by the unorthodox Faye Agard could not save the Bajan Gems from a 32-74 defeat in the opening netball Test against the Scotland Thistles at the Emirates Arena here in Glasgow.

The Gems were outran, outmuscled and outplayed with the Thistles leading 17-5, 41-14 and 60-22 at the first three quarters.

Agard, who replaced Shonica Wharton at the beginning of the second half used her height and complicated style as a goal shooter to lead the Gems with 14 goals from 15 attempts.

Coach Margaret Cutting, in her first outing as head coach of the Bajan Gems started with captain Latonia Blackman and vice captain Shonette Azore-Bruce in the defence circle, Wharton and Brianna Holder wearing the shooters’ bibs with Sabreena Smith running centre, Tonisha Rock-Yaw at wing defence and Sheniqua Thomas playing wing attack.
