The Unity Workers Union’s nursing membership has withdrawn its labour from a number of health care institutions across the island over Government’s insistence in creating safe zones at most public health facilities.

The industrial action could have an effect on the operations of the Geriatric Hospital, the Psychiatric Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).

General secretary of Unity, Caswell Franklyn, said the nurses took action from yesterday after a memo was sent out advising them to report to Government’s COVID-19 testing facility at the Queen’s Park Steel Shed, from tomorrow, for the start of weekly testing.

Last Thursday, Chief  Medical Officer The Most Honourable Dr Kenneth George informed the country during a press briefing that the safe zone initiative had commenced at the QEH, Geriatric Hospital and Psychiatric Hospital. (BA)
