Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley is urging everyone to spread the light and hope of the Christmas season into the new year as she remains optimistic that things will get better.

A vibrant tourist season, which officially starts on Wednesday, increased economic activity and the planned reopening of primary and secondary schools at the start of 2022 were mentioned by her as she gave the customary message at the Rotary Club of Barbados’ Virtual Carols By Candlelight during Saturday night’s showing at the Globe Drive-In.

Mottley said the club’s decision to “reshape” Carols By Candlelight was “indicative of the spirit of this event, the hope, the season, the light that is expected to shine in and through the hearts of men at Christmas time and, above all else, the resilience of Barbadians”. She beseeched all Barbadians to never let that light die.

“Around this time last year, while still fighting the firm grasp of the pandemic, we were looking towards 2021 for an ease. That is true; many of us were already talking about life after COVID back then. One year later, however, we’re looking at things through vastly different eyes. Our realisation now compels us to talk about living with COVID, the marathon of COVID. We’re now in no doubt that . . .  it is clearly now a new normal,” she said. (GBM)
