For the second consecutive raceday, young trainer Kenny John stole the Garrison Savannah spotlight by winning the feature event, en route to recording a brace.

Yesterday, on the Barbados Turf Club’s Valentine Raceday, John’s charge Jericho came fully wound up as he surged in the final furlong of the 1 100-metre Saint Valentine Handicap to snatch a breathtaking victory by a nose over Marengo.

Quick from the gates as usual, jockey N’Rico Prescod, in contrast to his last raceday victory, settled the George Devere Davis-owned seven-year-old chestnut gelding off the leader Rio Ponti and stablemate Marengo.

Marengo pounced on Rio Ponti at the two-furlong marker, at which time Jericho was taken to the outside to hunt down the leaders swinging for home.  (LY)
