Restaurateurs say curfew-lifting a boon

The lifting of the curfew from tomorrow is welcome news to some restaurateurs as they said it was timely and would ease both patrons and staff.

Minister of Health Ian Gooding-Edghill made the public announcement yesterday during a televised media conference.

Omar Kennedy, the owner of Aeon Bar and Grill, located at Sheraton Mall, Christ Church said it was the right time.

“From a revenue standpoint, we would have enjoyed if the curfew was removed earlier but we understand we are in an international crisis, so we believe now is the right time for the island.

We will enjoy the [removal] of the curfew as persons will be able to stay at our restaurant longer but we will not rest on our laurels. We will continue to enforce the protocols so our patrons and staff are safe at all times,” he said.

Chiryl Newman of Champers in Rockley, Christ Church, also said it was the right time as she said she believed it was time for Barbados to open up more.

“COVID is not going anywhere and we have to do what the United Kingdom and parts of the United States are doing – getting rid of restrictions. Businesses are hurting, it’s a lot of mental stress on people and I don’t think we can continue the way we are – life needs to get back to normal,” she said. (CA)
