Retired persons are so concerned about the rising cost of living that they will be among the intervenors during the rate hearing for electricity.

Yesterday president of the Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP), Marilyn Rice-Bowen, says her organisation is eyeing the rising cost of living and its potential impact on the senior citizen population in Barbados.

Speaking at the launch of the Member’s Fest initiative slated for April 19, which would mark the beginning of the lowering of their membership age limit from 50 to 40 years old, the BARP president explained that while the body has not yet met to flesh out the details of a plan of action, they were cognisant of the challenges.

She said that the organisation was especially concerned about recent increases in the rates of electricity bills. She also disclosed that BARP recently acquired intervenor’s status and will be represented at the upcoming Barbados Light and Power rate hearing before the Fair Trading Commission. (CLM)
